Lights Out Alliance Tournament

What a fun weekend for the Lights Out family as Lights Out hosted their first annual Alliance tournament. This was the first tournament experience for most of the boys, and it was refreshing that there was no tournament admission, unlike most tournaments. Andrew Rife, the coach of the Lights Out Raptors, made a great tournament program that most parents and players picked up at the door. Angel G., of the 13u Light Out team, and Coach Jena were able to sell some cold water and fresh t-shirts throughout the Tournament. There was an enjoyable shooting contest before the championship as well. Enike from the Burbank Suns team won the free throw portion and Colin O. from the Lights Out Gold team won the three point battle.

Despite Sunday being week 1 for the NFL season, no football game could beat the excitement in the Balboa gym.  The championship game Sunday featured the LO Gold team and the GLO 11u team. The girl’s teams were fresh off an incredible last second victory over the Burbank Raptors. What a thriller! Point guard Kayla N. had both the tying and winning free throws. The championship was a defensive struggle, yet the Gold team led early and never looked back, winning 36-24. Every time the girls would make a run, a different Gold player like Jon C. or Dylan G. would make a long range shot. Coach Devin really had his squad ready for battle. This was Jon C., Jon N., and Adam C. last games for a while due to soccer season starting. We hope to see them very soon.

Next Sunday is the opening weekend for Lights Out in the Impact league. Lights Out has three teams ready for action. The schedules should be made available Thursday and will be posted on the website. The GLO team has next weekend off before they play in an all girls tournament (even though they’re so used to playing boys).

Also, did anyone see The national televised game on NBC Saturday, where Notre Dame hosted San Diego State . Luke Laolagi (coach Jena’s brother) had a pivotal sac and forced a huge fumble as the Aztecs almost won! Way to go!

I look forward to talking to you each week on this page.

-Coach Adam
